“No.”

“I came in here looking for a deposit.”

The manager stepped around the counter entrance.

He was now on the customer side.

Closer.

His navy suit immaculate.

His burgundy tie straight.

His face flushed.

“Then deposit it through the ATM like you were told.”

The old man looked toward the teller.

“Run my name.”

The manager laughed.

“You think a name is going to change this?”

“It already should have.”

“What does that mean?”

“Run it.”

The teller’s fingers hovered over the keyboard.

The manager pointed toward the old man.

“I’m not letting some guy walk into my branch, insult my staff, and then demand special treatment.”

The old man looked around.

Nobody had been insulted except him.

The security guard took one step closer.

Not toward the old man.

Toward the manager.

The manager saw.

“Security.”

The guard stopped.

“Sir?”

The manager pointed toward the entrance.

“Escort him outside.”

The guard’s expression tightened.

The old man did not move.

The manager raised his voice.

“Now.”

The guard looked at the elderly customer.

Then at the teller.

The teller was staring at her screen.

Her face had gone completely white.

She whispered:

“Oh my God.”

The manager turned.

“What?”

She did not answer.

He walked behind the counter.

“What?”

The teller pushed her chair back slowly.

Her hands were shaking.

“Sir…”

The manager leaned toward the monitor.

She instinctively shifted her body, blocking some of it.

Not because she was protecting the elderly customer from the manager.

Because the system had opened a profile the manager was not authorized to casually browse.

The manager snapped:

“Move.”

She looked at him.

For the first time that morning, something in her expression changed from fear into certainty.

“No.”

The word stunned him.

“What did you say?”

“This profile is executive restricted.”

The manager froze.

The branch became silent.

The old man remained at the counter.

The teller looked toward him.

Then back at her manager.

Her voice shook.

“His name matches the CEO.”

The manager stared.

The teller swallowed.

Then said it more clearly.

“He is the chief executive of Community First Bank.”

Nobody moved.

The manager’s mouth opened.
