She asked what I preferred.
I smiled faintly.
“Camille is fine.”
She nodded.
“Then I'm Andrea.”
We sat across from each other in a neutral interview room.
A recording device stood on the table.
My attorney had been informed of the process, and appropriate support resources were available, but I chose to give my factual account directly.
Andrea explained the interview procedure.
Then asked me to describe what happened from the beginning.
I started with the swearing-in ceremony.
The drive home.
Changing clothes.
Walking outside.
Then the cruiser arriving.
I described Cole's questions.
The way he dismissed my answers.
My offer to provide identification.
The moment he picked up the hose.
And the feeling of cold water striking my face.
Andrea listened without interrupting.
She asked clarifying questions afterward.
Where had I been standing?
How far away was Cole?
Was the water directed toward me intentionally?
Did he provide a reason before using it?
Did I make any physical movement toward him?
I answered as accurately as I could.
At one point, she asked whether I'd told him I was a police officer.
I shook my head.
“Not before the badge became visible.”
“Why not?”
I took a breath.
“Because I was attempting to resolve the encounter as the homeowner.”
Andrea nodded.
Then waited.
I continued.
“I understood that revealing my position might change how he treated me. I wanted to verify the situation through ordinary means.”
She wrote something.
Then asked, “Did you believe you were free to leave?”
I considered that.
“No.”
“Why?”
“He was ordering me off my own property while preventing me from retrieving identification. He had moved close enough to control my movements and was becoming increasingly aggressive.”
Andrea nodded.
“Did he explicitly say you were detained?”
“Not in those words.”
“Thank you.”
We continued.
The interview lasted nearly two hours.
At the end, she asked whether there was anything else I wanted included.
I looked toward the table.
For a long moment, I didn't speak.
Then I said quietly, “He laughed.”
Andrea looked up.
I continued.
“While he was spraying me.”
She nodded.
“I've noted that.”
I stared toward the floor.
“It matters to me.”
