“The video is timestamped.”

The HOA president turned sharply.

“Shut up.”

The officer looked toward her.

“Ma’am.”

She stopped.

The homeowner unlocked his phone.

“I’ll show you.”

The video played.

No commentary required.

Gate opening.

Trash bag.

Photographs.

Bag lifted.

Garbage dumped.

The HOA president’s voice from moments earlier:

“Relax. It’s just a little trash. Clean it up yourself.”

The first officer watched all of it.

Then looked toward the woman.

“Do you have permission to be here?”

“I’m HOA president.”

“That is not what I asked.”

She crossed her arms.

“We have inspection authority.”

The homeowner said:

“Not for my fenced yard.”

The officer raised one hand again.

“I’ll handle the questions.”

Then to the HOA president:

“Did the homeowner give you permission to enter today?”

“No.”

“Did he leave the gate open?”

“No.”

“How did you enter?”

She hesitated.

The homeowner said nothing.

The officer asked again.

“How did you open the gate?”

The woman looked toward the homeowner.

Then:

“Association emergency access.”

The homeowner’s expression changed.

“There is no association emergency key.”

The officer looked toward him.

“That key belongs to an old pool-service lock.”

The woman went pale.

“How did you get it?”

The HOA president said:

“That’s irrelevant.”

The officer said:

“No.”

“It may not be.”

The homeowner raised the phone.

“The gate camera shows her using it.”

The officer exhaled.

“Okay.”

He requested identification.

Then separated them.

The HOA president kept looking toward the street.

The homeowner realized she was waiting for someone.

The first officer spoke with dispatch.

The second photographed the pool.

Then the homeowner remembered the call.

“Officer.”

“Yes?”

“There’s another recording.”

The HOA president’s head snapped toward him.

“Marcus.”

The homeowner looked at her.

It was the first time she had used his name that morning.

Interesting.

The officer asked:

“What recording?”

“Before she entered, she made a phone call at the gate.”

The woman moved toward him.

The second officer stepped between them.

“Ma’am.”

She stopped.

The homeowner opened the side-camera clip.

Audio crackled.

The HOA president’s voice came through.

Clear enough.

“…make sure the notice goes out today.”

Pause.

Then:

“No, don’t wait for management.”

Another pause.

“I want the sanitation photos attached before he can claim the pool was clean.”

The officers looked toward the water.

The homeowner felt cold despite the heat.

The recording continued.

The voice on the other end could not be heard.

The HOA president replied:

“I brought enough.”

Then:

“Yes.”

“The contractor can invoice emergency cleanup if he refuses.”

The clip ended when she opened the gate.
