Some guests would be angry.

A few might demand refunds.

But none of those inconveniences justified ignoring unresolved safety concerns.

The manager appeared several minutes later.

He approached quickly.

His expression was carefully controlled.

"Ma'am. What a surprise."

The woman looked at him.

"Good evening."

He gestured toward the lobby.

"I wish I'd known you were coming. We could've prepared something."

She shook her head.

"That won't be necessary."

He smiled.

"Of course."

Then he glanced toward the guest corridor.

"I understand corporate has requested some temporary room adjustments."

The woman studied him.

"Yes."

He sighed.

"An unfortunate misunderstanding."

Her expression hardened.

"What misunderstanding?"

The manager looked toward the lobby.

Then lowered his voice.

"A maintenance technician became overly cautious about equipment that our team believes is operating normally."

The woman remained silent.

He continued.

"He's a good mechanic, but he can be difficult."

She looked directly at him.

"Did an independent contractor recommend restricting operation?"

The manager hesitated.

"There's some disagreement about the wording."

"Did the contractor recommend it?"

He sighed.

"Technically, yes."

The woman nodded slowly.

"Then why does the maintenance system show the equipment as cleared?"

The manager stopped smiling.

For several seconds, he didn't answer.

Then he said, "The situation was updated after additional internal review."

"By whom?"

He glanced away.

The woman waited.

The manager cleared his throat.

"I would need to check."

She took a breath.

"I have already asked the independent safety director to preserve the system history."

His expression changed.

She continued.

"I also know the technician's account was used to enter a clearance after his shift ended."

The manager stared.

Then smiled nervously.

"That may have been a clerical issue."

The woman's voice remained calm.

"Then an independent review should establish that."

He nodded quickly.

"Absolutely."

She looked toward the elevators.

"Where is the safety coordinator?"

The manager hesitated.

"I can speak for the property."

The CEO looked back at him.

"I'm sure you can."

Then she added, "I'd like to hear from the coordinator as well."

His smile disappeared.

The safety coordinator met the CEO inside a quiet conference room overlooking the mountains.

She carried a thick folder.

Her face showed the exhaustion of someone who had spent several days trying to get an urgent concern taken seriously.

The woman invited her to sit.

Then asked a simple question.

"Tell me what happened, beginning with the original inspection."

The coordinator hesitated.

She looked toward the manager standing near the door.

The CEO noticed.

She turned.

"I'd like to speak with her privately."

The manager frowned.

"Of course, but I thinkβ€”"

"Privately."

He stopped.

Then left.

The door closed.

For several seconds, the coordinator remained silent.

The woman waited.

Finally, the employee opened the folder.
