Noelle stepped toward him.

“Captain, we've identified an individual subject to an unresolved internal do-not-transport restriction. The passenger's acceptance record also conflicts with my confirmed seat assignment.”

Elias nodded.

“Have operations verified the restriction?”

“Security is reviewing the discrepancy now.”

He looked toward Gavin.

“Sir, I'll need you to remain aboard only while we coordinate your orderly disembarkation, provided ground personnel can do so safely.”

Gavin stared.

“You're removing me?”

Elias remained calm.

“Yes.”

“Do you know what I paid for this flight?”

The captain nodded.

“I understand you're a customer. But passenger acceptance must be consistent with the operator's safety requirements.”

Gavin pointed toward Noelle.

“She can't just decide I don't belong here!”

Elias looked toward her.

Then back at him.

“I'm responsible for the safe operation of this flight. Based on the information currently available, departure will not proceed with this passenger discrepancy unresolved.”

For several seconds, Gavin stared.

Then he laughed bitterly.

“Wonderful. A pilot and his boss playing heroes.”

Elias didn't react.

He turned toward Claire.

“Please notify the other passengers that we're experiencing a departure delay. No details about another customer's personal information.”

She nodded.

“Yes, Captain.”

Noelle felt a brief surge of relief.

Elias hadn't allowed the conversation to become a personal struggle between her and Gavin.

He had treated it as an operational matter requiring proper review.

That was exactly what she expected from the company.

Then her phone vibrated.

A message from Ashford's internal security office.

She opened it.

The restricted-passenger entry was active in the original safety database.

But the commercial booking platform showed an executive override.

The override had been entered at 8:43 that morning.

Its recorded authorization source read:

OFFICE OF THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE — APPROVED.

Noelle stared.

She had authorized no such exception.

Her pulse accelerated.

She looked toward the captain.

“Elias, I need the original override record preserved.”

He nodded.

“Understood.”

Gavin watched her expression.

Then smiled.

For a moment, his confidence returned.

Noelle looked toward him.

“Who told you I approved your booking?”

Gavin shrugged.

“My people handled it.”

“Which people?”

He laughed.

“That's a question for your employees.”

Noelle studied him.

Then her eyes narrowed.

For the first time, she understood why the cabin dispute mattered beyond the billionaire's behavior.

Somebody inside Ashford had used the CEO's authority to reverse a safety restriction she had never lifted.

And Gavin knew it.

The ground-security supervisor arrived eight minutes later.
