The officer watched the rest.

Then came the technician.

Ma'am, climb out immediately—this pool was chemically treated this morning and isn't cleared for swimming yet.

Hayes stopped the video.

"Who is the technician?"

"Kevin Morales."

"Licensed?"

"Yes."

Hayes wrote down the name.

"Did she know the pool was closed?"

"She saw the notice."

"Before entering?"

Marcus nodded.

"The notice was already posted."

Hayes looked at him.

"Mr. Reed, I'm going to ask you something."

"Okay."

"Has this woman been causing problems before today?"

Marcus hesitated.

"Yes."

"How long?"

"Months."

"Any threats?"

"Nothing direct."

Hayes looked at the screen.

"This might not be an isolated incident."

Marcus sat down.

"I've been trying to keep things calm."

Hayes closed his notebook.

"Calm is good. Documentation is better."

He stood.

"I'd like copies of this footage."

Marcus nodded.

"I can provide them."

Hayes looked toward the backyard.

"And don't repair anything until you photograph it."

Marcus smiled faintly.

"I already took pictures."

Hayes smiled back.

"Good."

The officer left shortly afterward.

The technician packed his equipment.

Before leaving, Kevin handed Marcus a copy of the treatment record.

"Keep this."

Marcus accepted it.

"Thanks."

Kevin hesitated.

"You know she wasn't the first person to ignore that gate."

Marcus looked up.

"What?"

Kevin shifted his clipboard.

"About a month ago, someone had moved the warning sign."

"Who?"

"I don't know."

"You didn't report it?"

"I put it back."

Marcus frowned.

Kevin continued.

"But this morning, the sign was where it should be."

Marcus looked toward the pool.

"So she saw it."

"Absolutely."

Marcus nodded slowly.

That changed things.

Patricia hadn't merely entered a pool she assumed was open.

She had bypassed a locked gate with a warning sign.

She had done it knowingly.

Marcus called Danielle again.

"You're right."

"About what?"

"I called the police."

"Good."

"They're taking it seriously."

"Good."

"And there's something else."

He told her about the moved warning sign.

Danielle was quiet.

"Marcus."

"Yeah."

"Check your cameras."

"I did."

"No."

"What?"

"All of them."

Marcus understood.

The pool cameras weren't the only cameras around the property.

He had cameras facing the driveway.

The front walkway.
