She stepped toward Daniel.

"This doesn't change the violation."

Daniel's smile disappeared.

"Actually, it changes quite a lot."

"No."

"Yes."

"You are still violating HOA standards."

"Which standards?"

"The vehicle appearance policy."

"Show me where it says pink cars are prohibited."

Patricia hesitated.

"The regulations..."

"Show me."

She looked at the paper.

"The board has discretion."

"That's not the same thing."

"We have enforcement authority."

"Not over private vehicles."

"We do."

Daniel looked at Marcus.

"Did you see any court order?"

Marcus shook his head.

"No."

"Police authorization?"

"No."

"Repossession order?"

"No."

"Anything other than an HOA work order?"

Marcus shook his head again.

"No, sir."

Daniel nodded.

Patricia stepped closer.

"You are not going to intimidate me."

"I'm not trying to."

"You think owning a towing company gives you special rights?"

"No."

"Then stop acting like it."

Daniel pointed toward the Porsche.

"I'm asking you to explain why you ordered a private vehicle removed from my property."

Patricia looked at Emily.

"Because she doesn't deserve it."

Daniel's expression hardened.

"That's not a legal reason."

Patricia's eyes flashed.

"You don't get to decide what's appropriate for this community."

"And neither do you."

"I am the HOA president."

"That means you enforce the bylaws."

"I do."

"It doesn't mean you rewrite them."

Patricia's face tightened.

"You have always been difficult."

Daniel looked genuinely puzzled.

"Difficult?"

"Yes."

"Because I ask questions?"

"Because you refuse to cooperate."

"I refuse to cooperate with things that aren't authorized."

Patricia pointed toward the house.

"You've been warned about the garage."

"What garage?"

"Your garage door."

"My garage door?"

"The color."

Daniel stared at her.

"It's white."

"It reflects too much sunlight."

Emily looked at her father.

"Is she serious?"

Daniel quietly said, "Apparently."

Patricia continued.

"You were also warned about your landscaping."

"The landscaping was approved."

"Your daughter's dress at the community pool."

Emily's mouth dropped open.

"My dress?"

"Too elaborate."

Emily looked at Daniel.

"She complained about my dress?"

Patricia snapped, "It violated the community aesthetic."

Daniel slowly shook his head.

"You're not enforcing rules."

Patricia raised her chin.

"Watch yourself."

"No."

Daniel took one step closer.

"You watch yourself."

The driver stood quietly nearby.

Patricia looked around.

Several neighbors had come outside.

One man was standing near his mailbox.

A woman across the street had stepped onto her porch.

A teenager had stopped his bicycle.

Everyone was watching.

Patricia lowered her voice.

"This isn't over."
