Together, they show how much the injury is influencing ordinary movements.

Even resting has become something Milo has to think about with his body.

The Swelling May Change Before the Wounds Look Healed

If treatment addresses the underlying cause, the size of Milo's face may gradually begin changing.

The eyelids may become less compressed.

The contours of his cheek may start returning.

That does not necessarily mean every injury underneath has resolved.

Visible improvement can occur before complete healing.

The veterinary team still needs to follow the eye, wounds, pain, and any deeper tissue damage.

One Tiny Change Could Matter More Than the Entire Swelling

Milo opens the injured-side eye slightly farther.

Not fully.

Just enough that more of the eye becomes visible.

For anyone else, the difference might be easy to miss.

For Milo, it could be important.

Is the swelling decreasing?

Is the eye more comfortable?

Can he see normally through it?

Those questions require examination, but the change provides something new to evaluate.

His Vision Cannot Be Judged From Appearance Alone

A partially closed eye does not automatically mean blindness.

Likewise, an eye becoming more visible does not guarantee normal vision.

Veterinary assessment may include examining the surface of the eye and other structures, along with appropriate tests depending on Milo's condition.

The goal is not simply to make the eye look open again.

It is to preserve comfort and function whenever possible.

Milo Eventually Raises His Head on His Own

At first, he barely manages it.

His chin lifts from the towel.

His neck holds for several seconds.

Then his head drops again.

Later, the attempt lasts longer.

Milo looks toward movement in the room.

His healthier eye follows it easily.

The swollen side remains difficult to assess.

But he is becoming more engaged.

For an exhausted injured dog, that small increase in awareness can matter.

The First Comfortable Meal Could Be Another Milestone

A shallow dish is placed where Milo does not have to push his face against anything.

He smells the food.

Waits.

Then takes a small bite.

He chews cautiously.

Stops.

Tries again.

Nobody needs him to finish everything immediately.

The fact that he can begin eating without obvious worsening discomfort is information.

Recovery Will Not Be Measured by Fur

The shaved areas will eventually change.

Hair may grow back.

The uneven patches may become less noticeable.

That is not the important timeline.
