At the entrance, Morgan stopped and turned one last time.

“You have no idea who you’ve just crossed.”

Elena did not respond.

Daniel directed her to continue off the aircraft.

The boarding door remained open while the crew completed the immediate procedures and informed ground staff. Morgan disappeared into the jet bridge, still speaking angrily into her phone.

Only after she was gone did the cabin begin to breathe normally again.

The flight was delayed.

For some passengers, the delay was an inconvenience. For others, it meant missed connections, changed appointments, or the need to rearrange plans.

Captain Hayes made a brief announcement, explaining that the aircraft was experiencing a boarding delay and that the crew would provide updates as soon as possible. He did not disclose Elena’s identity or the details of the incident over the public-address system.

Daniel returned to Elena.

“Ms. Brooks, the captain would like to speak with you before departure, if you’re comfortable.”

“Of course.”

Daniel escorted her to the forward galley, where the captain joined them after confirming that the first officer could continue the predeparture checks.

Captain Hayes was a tall man in his early fifties, with graying hair and a measured manner. He introduced himself, though Elena already knew his name from the flight documentation.

“Ms. Brooks, I’m sorry this happened aboard my aircraft.”

“Thank you, Captain.”

“I’ve been briefed on the incident. We’ve removed the passenger, and the crew is completing the required reports. I want to ensure you’re medically comfortable before we proceed.”

“I appreciate that. I have some pain and swelling, but no dizziness or visual disturbance. I’ll continue monitoring it.”

“Would you prefer to disembark and seek medical attention?”

Elena considered the question carefully.

“I’m able to continue, provided the crew can operate without further disruption. I would like the incident formally recorded, and I’ll preserve my own notes and the relevant evidence.”

“Absolutely.”

“I also want to clarify that my role does not mean I expect special treatment. I expect the same safety procedures that should apply to any passenger.”

Captain Hayes nodded.

“That’s understood.”

Elena glanced toward the cabin.

“Your supervisor acted decisively once he reached the scene. I want to assess the timeline accurately, including what happened before his arrival.”

“Of course.”

“The important thing is that the response be based on the conduct, not on my credentials.”

The captain looked at Daniel.

“I agree.”

Daniel’s expression was serious.

“I should have recognized the situation sooner.”

Elena replied, “That’s for the review to establish. Don’t prejudge your own report.”

Captain Hayes gave a small nod.

“We’ll make sure the record is complete.”

He returned to the flight deck, and Daniel accompanied Elena back to her seat.

The cabin had quieted. The spilled coffee was gone, the floor dry, and Elena’s handbag had been returned to its place beneath the seat.

Rachel leaned across the aisle.

“Are you still okay?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“Will the airline do anything?”

“That depends on its procedures and the findings of the review.”
