She had walked directly beneath it.

Cole asked:

“Does it capture audio?”

“Yes.”

“From when?”

“Continuous motion clips. Gate camera caught her arrival. Doorbell should have everything on the porch.”

“Can you show me?”

“Yes.”

Marjorie stepped forward.

“Wait.”

Cole turned.

“Stay where I asked you.”

“That video cannot be used without context.”

Cole looked at her.

“I haven't watched it.”

“She's selectively showing you.”

Naomi said:

“It uploads automatically.”

Marjorie’s face changed.

Naomi opened the app.

Clip one.

Gate.

Marjorie outside.

Naomi’s voice through the boards:

“Do not open my gate.”

Then Marjorie's hand over the top.

Latch.

Entry.

Officer Cole watched without expression.

Marjorie began:

“The association has—”

Cole held up one finger.

“Please.”

Clip two.

Porch.

The argument.

Clear audio.

Marjorie:

“You will not use that again until this matter is resolved.”

Naomi:

“I’m going to finish my driveway.”

Then movement toward outlet.

Naomi blocking.

Paper pushed.

Then the open-handed strike.

Visible.

Clear.

Cole paused.

Rewound.

Watched.

Marjorie's breathing changed.

“That angle makes it look—”

Cole resumed.

Second shove.

Naomi striking railing.

Then:

“Don't touch me!”

Then Marjorie taking out the phone.

Calling 911.

Cole watched through the point where Marjorie said:

“There has been an assault. My neighbor became violent…”

He stopped.

Silence.

Naomi said nothing.

That was important.

Marjorie spoke.

“She edited something.”

Naomi stared.

Cole looked at her.

“The timestamp is continuous.”

“She provoked me before the camera.”

“The gate camera begins before you entered.”

“Verbally.”

Cole asked:

“What did she say?”

“She was disrespectful.”

“That isn't assault.”

“She moved toward me.”

Cole looked at the recording.

“She stepped between you and the outlet.”

“Yes.”

“On her porch.”

“She was preventing lawful HOA enforcement.”

Cole's expression changed.

Not dramatically.

Something became firmer.

“Ma'am.”

Marjorie lifted her chin.

“Yes?”

“Turn around.”

She stared.

“What?”

“Turn around.”

“No.”

Cole stepped slightly closer.

“I'm giving you a lawful instruction.”

Marjorie looked at Naomi.

Then back.

“This is absurd.”

“Please turn around and put your hands behind your back.”

Her face lost color.

“You're arresting me?”

Cole did not answer the legal conclusion immediately.

He repeated:

“Hands behind your back.”

Marjorie looked toward the street.

Neighbors.

At least four now.

Her public role suddenly mattered to her.

“Officer, I am president of the homeowners association.”

Cole's expression did not change.

“I heard you.”

“I was conducting official business.”
