Ju did not tell anyone Aaron’s final words at first.

That decision almost destroyed her.

In the immediate aftermath of Kharan Ridge, survivors were separated, treated, questioned, and questioned again. Ju had a concussion. Her shoulder was partially dislocated. Her face was cut near the eye. She kept asking where the medical pack had been recovered, but no one answered. She kept asking whether Aaron’s body had been searched, but the officers in the room told her to rest.

She did not rest.

The black wafer remained hidden inside the lining of her torn field glove. Aaron had placed it in her palm, and she had shoved it there before rescue reached them. She did not know what was on it. She did not know how many people might be connected to it. She knew only two things.

Aaron believed his uncle had betrayed the route.

And Aaron had told her to get it to Reed.

The problem was that Major General Elias Reed was not in her chain of command. He was attached to an Inspector General and counterintelligence review group that operated above normal regional authority. Ju had no direct access to him. If she tried to send the wafer through standard channels, it might pass through Willy’s office.

So she waited.

That waiting allowed Willy’s version to spread.

At first it was only whispers. The medic dropped the pack. The nephew bled out. She froze. She made the wrong call. She tried to save equipment instead of the officer. Then whispers became informal briefings. Then informal briefings became attitude. Soldiers stopped sitting beside her. Officers paused when she entered rooms. One medic asked whether she wanted to transfer before the inquiry “made things worse.”

Ju kept the wafer hidden.

Three days after returning to base, she received her first anonymous note.

Aaron died looking at you. Remember that before you speak.

She burned it.

The second note came under her barracks door.

A dropped medical pack is easier to explain than treason.

That note told her the truth had already leaked somewhere.

Willy or someone close to him suspected she knew more than the official story.

Ju sent one encrypted request through an old academy contact who had once worked under Reed. She included only three words from Aaron’s final statement:

Sold the route.

She received no reply for four days.

On the fifth, a message appeared on her private device from an unknown secure channel.

Do not confront Willy. Do not explain the wafer to anyone. Eat in the mess hall as normal. He will try to make you angry.

Ju stared at the message until her vision blurred.

Then a second line appeared.

Reed is coming.

She went to lunch because the message told her to.

She did not know Willy would pour sauce over her head.

She did not know he would throw her tray.

She did not know he would kick her chair.

But when her hand closed around the fork, she understood too late.

This was never about humiliation.

It was about making her reaction more useful than Aaron’s evidence.
