Then another.

Phones appeared.

The homeowner came downstairs holding the deed and heard shouting outside.

He looked through the window.

The HOA president stood beside the Rolls-Royce.

Bat in hand.

He froze.

Then put down the deed.

“Sheriff.”

No answer from the study.

He moved toward the front door.

Outside, the HOA president had placed her green folder on the hood of her SUV.

She pointed the bat toward the Rolls-Royce.

A neighbor called:

“What are you doing?”

She answered:

“Enforcing association property standards.”

The neighbor stared.

“With a bat?”

The HOA president ignored her.

The homeowner stepped onto the porch.

“What are you doing?”

She turned.

There was triumph in her expression.

“I warned you.”

He walked only as far as the steps.

“Put the bat down.”

“Move the car.”

“It isn’t mine.”

“Stop lying.”

“I am not lying.”

She walked toward the rear passenger side.

The homeowner raised his phone.

Began recording.

“Do not touch that vehicle.”

She laughed.

“You should’ve thought of that before turning the curb into your personal showroom.”

“It is not my vehicle.”

“You’ve said that.”

“Yes.”

“Because it is true.”

Her grip tightened.

One neighbor shouted:

“Don’t do it!”

The HOA president looked toward the growing audience.

Something in her changed.

The crowd should have stopped her.

Instead it pushed her deeper.

Backing down publicly would mean admitting she had lost control of the confrontation.

She lifted the bat.

The homeowner’s voice became firmer.

“Put it down.”

She stared.

“What are you going to do?”

“Record what happens.”

“You think your phone scares me?”

“No.”

“I think evidence should.”

Then she swung.

The bat struck the rear passenger window.

Crack.

Glass fractured.

The homeowner’s eyes closed for half a second.

A neighbor gasped.

Someone shouted:

“Oh my God.”

The HOA president looked at the broken window.

Then toward the homeowner.

For one brief moment, even she appeared surprised by what she had done.

Then pride rushed in to protect her.

She lifted the bat again.

“There.”

She smiled.

“Maybe now you’ll learn what happens when you ignore my HOA rules.”

The homeowner kept recording.

“I warned you twice.”

She stepped closer to the car.

“That isn’t my car.”

The HOA president scoffed.

“Still lying.”

The homeowner looked toward the house.

Where was the sheriff?

The HOA president lifted the bat.

“You want to test me again?”

“Don’t.”

“Or what?”

The homeowner’s voice stayed calm.

“It already got worse.”

She began another swing.

A hand caught the bat near the handle before it could move forward.

The HOA president jerked around.

The sheriff stood beside her.

Tan uniform.

Badge.

Expression completely still.

“Drop it.”

She blinked.

“Sheriff?”

“Drop the bat.”
