Hadn't admitted the affair.
And hadn't mentioned the child.
Yet the mistress apparently believed she would move into Naya's house the following morning.
Naya took a screenshot.
Then called her attorney.
She explained the post and her concern.
The lawyer listened carefully.
Then reviewed the available options for responding if her husband attempted to force her out of the residence.
She advised Naya not to engage in a physical confrontation, to keep important documents accessible, and to contact emergency services if anyone threatened her safety.
They also discussed the difference between property title and immediate occupancy rights.
Naya couldn't assume she could simply lock her husband out without regard to the applicable legal process.
But he couldn't force her to leave solely by announcing a divorce either.
There were lawful procedures for addressing possession of the marital home while proceedings continued.
Naya understood.
She made arrangements for a trusted friend to be available nearby.
Then placed the completed property documents and the preliminary financial report in a folder beside the kitchen island.
She slept badly.
Every sound from the driveway made her heart race.
But by morning, she'd decided how she would respond.
She wasn't going to beg.
She wasn't going to scream.
And she wasn't going to leave a home she purchased years before her husband knew her name simply because he arrived with another woman and demanded it.
At nine-thirty, she heard a car pull into the driveway.
Naya was already sitting at the kitchen island.
She wore her soft sage-green maternity dress and ivory cardigan.
Her hair was tied into a messy high puff.
And the legal folder rested beside a glass of water.
For several seconds, she listened.
The engine stopped.
A car door opened.
Then another.
She heard wheels rolling across the driveway.
And a woman's voice laughing.
Her husband's voice followed.
"Careful with the baby."
Naya closed her eyes.
For a moment, she placed both hands over her stomach.
Her daughter moved gently.
Then the front door opened.
And the life Naya thought she'd been building with her husband finally ended.
Not when he announced the divorce.
Not when the mistress claimed the house.
But when he stood silently while another woman struck his pregnant wife's hand.
In that moment, Naya understood something with painful clarity.
The man she'd married wasn't simply choosing another relationship.
He was willing to humiliate and intimidate her in the home she'd worked years to build.
And she no longer owed him the opportunity to pretend that cruelty was love.
