When Naya texted that the confrontation was escalating, her friend drove directly to the house.

She stepped onto the porch and knocked.

Naya opened the door.

For a moment, the two women looked at each other.

Then her friend saw the mistress, the infant, and the husband standing beside the kitchen island.

Her expression changed.

"Naya."

"I'm okay."

The nurse looked toward her pregnant belly.

"Are you sure?"

Naya nodded.

Then her eyes filled.

Her friend stepped closer.

"I'm here."

For a moment, Naya felt the fragile calm she'd maintained begin to crack.

She wanted to collapse into the woman's arms.

Cry.

And admit how frightened she was.

But the room was still full of people.

So she took a breath.

"Thank you."

Her husband looked irritated.

"Why is she here?"

The nurse turned toward him.

"Because your wife asked me to come."

He scoffed.

"This is private."

She studied the scene.

Then said evenly.

"Then perhaps you shouldn't have turned it into a public performance by bringing another woman and a baby into the middle of it."

The mistress looked down.

The husband opened his mouth.

But no words came.

The nurse guided Naya toward the living room.

She helped her sit comfortably and asked whether she'd experienced pain, dizziness, or other concerning symptoms during the confrontation.

Naya described the sudden fright and the baby's movements.

Her friend encouraged her to contact her prenatal care team for advice about whether an assessment was needed, especially given the stress and physical contact during the incident.

Naya agreed.

Meanwhile, her husband stood in the kitchen staring at the documents.

For the first time that morning, he seemed unsure what to do.

His mistress was crying quietly near the doorway.

The baby had settled in her arms.

The silver suitcase stood beside her.

And the beautiful home he'd promised them was no longer the prize he believed he could deliver.

The husband walked toward Naya.

"We need to talk privately."

Her friend looked toward him.

Naya shook her head.

"Not right now."

He sighed.

"Come on."

She remained seated.

"No."

His voice sharpened.

"Naya, I'm still your husband."

She looked up.

For a moment, she seemed almost surprised by the statement.

Then she answered.

"You should've remembered that before you brought your girlfriend through my front door."

He stared.

The words hung in the room.

Then he looked away.

The mistress finally spoke.

"I'm leaving."

Her husband turned.

"Where?"

She gave a bitter laugh.

"Apparently not here."

He approached her.

"Don't do this."

She shifted the baby against her shoulder.
