She rolled down the window.

“You're going to regret this.”

Marcus folded his arms.

“Drive out.”

She pressed the accelerator.

The Maybach moved backward another foot.

Then stopped again.

Patricia looked at the partially lowered door.

“Raise it.”

Marcus shook his head.

“There's enough clearance.”

“I don't trust it.”

“That's not my problem.”

“You're responsible if it gets damaged.”

“No.”

She stared.

“You are.”

“No.”

“You own the property.”

“Yes.”

“And you're operating the garage door.”

“No.”

“You pressed the remote.”

“Yes.”

“Then you're responsible.”

Marcus smiled slightly.

“No.”

Patricia looked furious.

She shifted the vehicle into park.

Then got out.

“Fine.”

She walked toward him.

“You want to play this game?”

Marcus shook his head.

“This isn't a game.”

“You're embarrassing me.”

“You drove into my garage.”

“You're making me look bad.”

“I didn't drive your car.”

Patricia pointed at him.

“You've always had an attitude.”

Marcus took a slow breath.

“Patricia, back your car out.”

“No.”

“Then I'm calling the police.”

“Go ahead.”

He pulled out his phone.

Patricia smiled.

“Call them.”

Marcus dialed.

She stood there watching.

The phone rang.

“County dispatch.”

“Hello. I'm at my home and someone has driven a vehicle into my private garage without permission.”

Patricia's eyes widened.

Marcus continued.

“The vehicle belongs to my HOA president.”

Patricia shook her head.

“Tell them I have permission.”

Marcus looked at her.

“Do you?”

“Yes.”

“From whom?”

She didn't answer.

Marcus continued.

“I don't know whether she has permission. She is refusing to remove the vehicle.”

The dispatcher asked several questions.

Marcus answered calmly.

No threats.

No exaggeration.

No accusations.

Just facts.

Patricia paced.

When he hung up, she looked at him.

“They're not going to do anything.”

“We'll see.”

“You think the police are going to take your side?”

“I didn't ask them to take sides.”

“I know the chief.”

Marcus shrugged.

“Good.”

“I know the mayor.”

“Good.”

“I know people.”

Marcus nodded.

“I'm sure you do.”

She stared at him.

“You're not worried?”

“No.”

“Why?”

Marcus looked at the camera.

“Because everything is recorded.”

Patricia followed his gaze.

The confidence in her face weakened.
