“How?”
“I used HOA access rights.”
“Through the gate?”
Pause.
“The gate was inaccessible.”
Morgan looked at the gate.
“How did you get in?”
Vanessa looked toward the fence.
“I crossed the boundary.”
Jackson glanced at Marcus.
He nearly laughed.
Morgan remained expressionless.
“You climbed the fence?”
Vanessa's voice hardened.
“Because he intentionally locked the gate to obstruct inspection.”
Marcus said:
“My gate is always locked.”
Morgan lifted a hand.
“I'll get your statement.”
Marcus nodded.
Vanessa pointed toward him.
“He was swimming while I was trying to discuss compliance.”
Marcus looked at her.
Even now she seemed unable to hear herself.
Morgan asked:
“What happened physically?”
“I approached the pool.”
“He came toward me.”
“He was angry.”
“He blocked my path.”
“I tried to step away.”
“He grabbed my arm.”
Marcus closed his eyes for one second.
Jackson noticed.
“You okay?”
“Yes.”
Morgan asked Vanessa:
“Did you touch him?”
She hesitated.
“I may have made incidental contact while protecting myself.”
Marcus looked directly at Morgan.
No words.
Morgan asked:
“Did you grab him?”
“No.”
Marcus almost spoke.
Stopped.
Morgan wrote.
Vanessa continued.
“He is much larger than me.”
“He was shouting.”
“I feared for my safety.”
Marcus could almost admire the construction.
Every individual detail contained enough truth to sound plausible.
He was larger.
He had raised his voice eventually.
She had touched him.
She simply reversed why.
Officer Jackson stepped toward Marcus.
“Sir, walk over here with me.”
He did.
Far side of patio.
She asked:
“Tell me from beginning.”
Marcus explained.
Swimming.
Surfaced.
Saw Vanessa inside.
Asked how she entered.
Told her to leave.
She cited inspection authority.
Tried to reach equipment.
He blocked without touching.
She grabbed his forearm.
He pulled free.
She grabbed again.
Sirens.
Behavior changed.
Police arrived.
Jackson wrote.
“Did you touch her at any point?”
“When I pulled my arm away, maybe our hands or arms made contact.”
“Anything intentional?”
“No.”
“Push her?”
“No.”
“Grab?”
“No.”
“Threaten?”
“No.”
“Did you invite her?”
“No.”
“Any HOA document giving entry rights?”
“Not that I know of.”
“Okay.”
Marcus pointed upward.
“Camera.”
Jackson looked.
“Recording?”
“Yes.”
“I sent clips to dispatch.”
Her expression changed.
“You already sent them?”
