“Dispatch received no security alert because there was no unauthorized entry.”

She looked at the lead attendant.

“Ramp security was never required.”

Then:

“You created the emergency.”

Silence.

Eleven minutes.

The operations director glanced toward the hangar.

The Black woman noticed.

“Are they ready?”

“Yes.”

The lead attendant looked between them.

“Who?”

Nobody answered.

The operations director lifted his radio.

“Proceed.”

The hangar doors began opening.

Inside, six people waited.

Two pilots.

Three cabin crew.

One ground coordinator.

All wearing company uniforms.

All briefed less than an hour earlier.

A replacement crew.

The original lead attendant stared.

“No.”

The Black woman looked toward her.

The woman’s breathing changed.

“You can’t replace an entire flight team ten minutes before departure.”

The Black woman answered:

“We’re not departing in ten minutes.”

The captain stepped closer.

“Chairwoman, please.”

She turned toward him.

“Please what?”

“Allow us to explain.”

“You’ve had eleven minutes to explain who you thought I was.”

His face tightened.

The younger ground employee stood several yards away, visibly uncertain whether he was included in what was happening.

The Black woman noticed.

“Stay where you are.”

He froze.

She looked toward the operations director.

“His name?”

The director gave it.

“Employment status?”

“Ground operations, probationary.”

She nodded.

Then returned her attention to the crew.

The replacement team approached.

The original crew watched.

The atmosphere shifted from uncertainty to dread.

The lead attendant’s voice became lower.

“This was a setup.”

The Black woman’s expression changed for the first time.

Anger.

Not loud.

Much more dangerous.

“A setup would require me to create behavior you would not otherwise display.”

She gestured toward the tablet.

“I arrived with valid authorization.”

“I offered it.”

“You refused.”

“I asked for verification.”

“You refused.”

“You moved my property.”

“You threatened removal.”

“You referenced my clothing.”

“And you did all of that while your colleagues watched.”

She paused.

“I didn’t set that up.”

“You did.”

The captain looked toward the operations director.

“There must be context from previous complaints.”

There.

The Black woman heard the phrase.

Previous complaints.

The captain knew.

She turned.

“You were aware of them?”

His face changed.

Mistake.

The operations director looked toward him too.

The captain tried to recover.

“I’m aware that there have been customer-service concerns across the division.”

“That was not my question.”

Silence.

“Were you aware of complaints involving this crew?”

The captain said nothing.

The lead attendant looked toward him.
