β€œFive thousand dollars. That's all yours if you can speak one sentence of Thai.”

The billionaire's laughter rolled across the most expensive private dining room in Manhattan as he pushed a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills across the white tablecloth toward the Black waitress standing beside his chair.

There were fifty bills in the stack, each crisp and neatly aligned, held together by a thin paper band. The money came to rest between a crystal champagne glass and a gold-rimmed porcelain plate, close enough for the waitress to take without leaning over the table.

She didn't touch it.

She stood perfectly still, holding a bottle of expensive French champagne in her right hand and a black leather service folder against her waist with the other.

Her name tag identified her only as a member of the restaurant's private dining staff.

She was thirty-one years old, extraordinarily beautiful, with rich deep-brown skin, captivating almond-shaped eyes, full lips, and long, perfectly braided black hair falling down her back. Her elegant deep-royal-blue traditional Thai silk outfit shimmered beneath the chandeliers, its richly embroidered gold patterns matching the ornamental belt around her waist.

The one-shouldered Chut Thai Chakri ensemble had been specially prepared for the restaurant's exclusive cultural gala. Its silk sabai was draped gracefully across her shoulder, while the fitted, beautifully embroidered traditional skirt gave her an appearance of quiet elegance.

She looked unlike the other servers moving between the tables.

And the billionaire had noticed.

Unfortunately, he had noticed for all the wrong reasons.

β€œCome on, sweetheart,” he continued, leaning back in his expensive leather chair. β€œFive thousand American dollars. That's probably more than you make in a month.”

Several wealthy Thai businessmen sitting around the magnificent circular table began laughing.

One covered his mouth with a folded linen napkin.

Another leaned back, shaking his head.

A third glanced at the waitress's outfit and smiled as though the entire scene had been arranged for his amusement.

The billionaire was forty-eight, exceptionally handsome, and accustomed to being the most powerful person in almost every room he entered. His neatly styled black hair was touched with gray near the temples, and his charcoal three-piece suit had been tailored in London. A silver silk tie rested against his white shirt, while a platinum watch worth more than most people's annual salaries gleamed at his wrist.

He was the interim executive chairman of a luxury hotel group valued at approximately three hundred million dollars.

He controlled partnerships across Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, and New York.
