The investigator paused the video.

She studied the blue pouch.

Then looked toward the son.

"Was your father inside the house at this point?"

"Yes."

"Did the officer have permission to enter the truck?"

"Not that I'm aware of."

She nodded.

Then resumed the footage.

The sergeant closed the pickup door.

Walked toward the porch.

And rang the bell.

The investigator continued watching until the confrontation began.

Then she stopped the recording.

For several seconds, she remained silent.

The son watched her face.

Finally, he asked, "Is that enough?"

She looked toward him.

"Enough for what?"

"To prove he planted something."

The investigator considered.

"The video appears highly relevant. We need to authenticate it, establish what the pouch contained, and examine the full circumstances."

The son nodded.

But frustration tightened his voice.

"You can see him put it there."

She met his eyes.

"I can."

He swallowed.

"Then why isn't he already arrested?"

The investigator remained calm.

"Because our job is to establish what happened in a way that can withstand legal scrutiny."

The son looked away.

She continued.

"I know that may feel slow."

He nodded.

"It does."

The investigator leaned forward.

"But a careful investigation is how we make sure the truth remains clear after people begin challenging it."

The younger man thought of his father.

The old drainage maps.

The disputed signature.

And the lesson he'd learned building computer systems.

An accurate record had to survive more than the first person looking at it.

It needed to withstand questions.

Testing.

And scrutiny.

He took a breath.

"All right."

The investigator nodded.

Then asked something unexpected.

"Has your father recently been involved in a property dispute?"

The son looked up.

"Yes."

She waited.

He opened the blue folder.

The investigator studied it.

Property deeds.

Old drainage maps.

Correspondence.

A disputed easement.

And a letter from the father refusing access across the family land.

The woman looked toward the documents.

Then toward the son.

"Why did your father say the sergeant wanted these?"

The younger man hesitated.

"I don't know."

He swallowed.

"But I think somebody was trying to make him stop challenging the development."

The investigator listened.

She didn't accept that as established fact.

She asked for the names of the relevant businesses, the dates of the communications, and copies of the documents.

The son provided what he had.

Then he looked toward the front window.
