Cars moved slowly along the tree-lined street.

Gardeners worked beneath the hedges.

A delivery van stopped near the gate.

The afternoon sunlight softened.

But the incident had changed the atmosphere.

Neighbors who once smiled confidently at the blonde woman now avoided her eyes.

Others whispered.

A few attempted to approach the businessman.

He politely declined lengthy conversations.

He was tired.

His shoulders ached.

His wrists were sore.

And although he had maintained control in front of the officers, he felt anger moving beneath the surface.

Not the kind that made him want to shout.

The kind that made him want to sit somewhere quiet and understand exactly what happened.

He walked toward the mansion.

The older neighbor approached before he reached the door.

"Sir?"

He turned.

She held her phone carefully.

"I wanted to make sure you were all right."

He smiled faintly.

"I appreciate that."

She looked toward his wrists.

"Those cuffs looked painful."

"They were."

The older woman shook her head.

"I'm sorry."

He studied her.

"For what?"

She looked toward the blonde woman's property.

Then back at him.

"For watching how she treated people and convincing myself it wasn't my business."

The businessman remained quiet.

The woman continued.

"She's done things like this before."

His expression changed.

"What things?"

The older neighbor sighed.

"Not exactly this. But similar."

She looked down the street.

"Last year, she called security on a young landscaper because he parked his work truck near the wrong driveway."

The businessman listened.

"Was he authorized to be there?"

"Of course. He worked for the family across the street."

The older woman shook her head.

"She insisted he looked suspicious."

The businessman felt his jaw tighten.

"Was he detained?"

"Yes. Security held him until the property manager arrived."

She paused.

"He lost half a day's work."

The businessman looked toward the neighborhood entrance.

The older woman continued.

"Then there was the nurse."

He turned.

"What nurse?"

"A Black woman who came here to care for an elderly resident overnight."

She sighed.

"Security stopped her at the gate three times in one week, even though the family had registered her."

The businessman looked toward her.

"Do you know whether she filed a complaint?"

The older neighbor nodded.

"She did."

"What happened?"

The woman looked embarrassed.

"I don't know."

She swallowed.

"But I remember the blonde woman saying some visitors needed extra scrutiny."

The businessman remained silent.

The older neighbor studied him.

"I should have said something."

He considered.

Then answered.

"You can say something now."

Her eyes filled slightly.

She nodded.

"Yes."

He continued.

"If those people are willing to speak, I'd like the appropriate independent investigators to hear their experiences."

The woman nodded.

"I can help contact them."

"Thank you."

She glanced toward the Ferrari.

Then smiled sadly.
