The Indian billionaire was halfway through his second glass of expensive wine when he decided to humiliate the young Black waitress standing beside his chair.
He did it in Hindi because he was certain she wouldn't understand a single word.
“इसे क्या समझ आएगा? यह तो बस एक वेट्रेस है।”

What would she understand? She's only a waitress.
The four wealthy American businessmen seated around the long dining table exchanged amused glances. Two of them laughed despite not understanding the language, apparently assuming the billionaire had made some clever observation. Another smiled politely, while the fourth continued studying the woman standing silently beneath the enormous white lantern suspended above the private dining room.
She was twenty-seven years old, exceptionally beautiful, with rich dark-brown skin, striking almond-shaped eyes, elegantly defined cheekbones, and black hair arranged in a neat high bun. Her perfectly pressed white blouse, fitted white apron, and simple gold earrings gave her the appearance of an ordinary restaurant employee attending to a particularly demanding table.
There was nothing ordinary about her expression.
She had heard every word.
She understood not only the billionaire's Hindi but also the contempt concealed beneath his polished smile, the assumptions he had made about her intelligence, and the reason he believed none of the Americans would question his behavior.
What he didn't know was that the young woman had spent seven years studying Hindi.
He didn't know she had negotiated international restaurant supply contracts in three languages. He didn't know she had graduated with honors in hospitality management, rebuilt a struggling restaurant group, and spent the previous eighteen months rejecting acquisition proposals from investors who wanted to turn her family's culinary legacy into another luxury brand.
And he certainly didn't know that the magnificent private dining room in which he was sitting belonged to her.
The billionaire lifted his crystal glass and looked toward the American businessmen.
“Some people should learn their place,” he said in English.
The waitress remained motionless.
His smile widened.
“Did you hear me, young lady?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Then why are you standing there looking so serious?”
“I'm waiting to hear whether you need anything else.”
The billionaire chuckled.
