"That's one interpretation."
The owner smiled politely.
"It's the one my attorney reached too."
The billionaire turned toward the developer.
"Why wasn't I shown this version?"
The developer blinked.
"You were shown the master development plan."
"Not this property configuration."
The room became quieter.
The young woman watched the exchange carefully.
For the first time that evening, the billionaire's irritation wasn't directed at her.
It was directed toward his own advisers.
She continued.
"I understand commercial development. I know businesses sometimes change ownership, buildings get renovated, and neighborhoods evolve."
She paused.
"I'm not opposed to investment."
The developer nodded impatiently.
"Then we agree."
"No."
Her answer was immediate.
"We don't agree that a restaurant acquisition should quietly become a transaction involving unrelated property interests."
The senior financial adviser looked toward the document.
"Those rights would need separate approval."
"Correct," the owner said.
The billionaire glanced at the attorney.
"Then why were they included?"
The attorney cleared his throat.
"The draft was intended to provide flexibility."
The billionaire's voice hardened.
"That wasn't my question."
The attorney went silent.
The young owner watched the billionaire closely.
He had become accustomed to directing contempt toward people who worked for him.
Now he was beginning to understand what it felt like to depend on advisers who had not given him the complete picture.
But she didn't mistake his discomfort for innocence.
He was responsible for understanding the deals he pursued.
And he had chosen the people who represented him.
She turned another page.
"There's also the matter of the outstanding vendor invoices."
The billionaire frowned.
"What invoices?"
The property developer shifted in his chair.
The owner noticed.
She removed a summary prepared by her forensic accountant.
"Over the past several months, our restaurant received demands for payment relating to services we didn't order."
She placed the summary beside the redevelopment diagram.
"Those claims originated through a management company connected to one of the proposed development entities."
The developer spoke sharply.
"That's an unfair characterization."
She looked at him.
"Which part is incorrect?"
"You're implying coordination without proof."
"I'm identifying documented relationships."
She held his gaze.
"You're welcome to explain them."
The developer's jaw tightened.
The owner continued.
