He looked surprised by her calmness.

She continued.

"But it will be my mistake to make."

The rest of the dinner was unlike anything the billionaire had experienced.

No one knew whether to continue eating.

The food remained beautiful.

Fresh naan rested beside polished silver bowls. The lamb had been prepared perfectly, the rice was fragrant, and the vegetables retained their color and texture.

But the men at the table had lost their appetites.

The billionaire was particularly uncomfortable.

Every time a member of the service team approached, he became conscious of his own behavior.

A waiter refilled water glasses.

The billionaire thanked him awkwardly.

A server removed empty plates.

He moved his hands out of the way and offered another quiet thank-you.

The gestures were small.

Ordinary.

Things most people would barely notice.

But for a man who had spent the evening treating service as a measure of another person's inferiority, they felt unfamiliar.

The young owner watched without commenting.

She had no interest in congratulating him for discovering basic manners.

Eventually, the senior financial adviser turned toward her.

"Would you permit one final question?"

"Of course."

"Why did you choose to learn Hindi?"

The billionaire looked up.

The owner smiled slightly.

"Because it was part of the life of this restaurant long before I became its owner."

The adviser nodded.

"Our head chef grew up speaking Hindi," she continued. "My mother worked beside him for decades. When I was little, I heard the language almost every day."

She glanced toward the wall.

"My mother wanted this place to honor the food and people behind it, not simply borrow beautiful decorations."

The adviser looked toward the calligraphy.

"स्वागत है," he read slowly.

The owner nodded.

"Welcome."

She turned toward the billionaire.

"That's what it says."

He looked at the words.

She continued.

"My mother chose that phrase because she believed hospitality began before the first dish reached the table."

The billionaire remained silent.

The owner smiled faintly.

"She wanted guests to feel welcome even when the language was unfamiliar."

The financial adviser looked thoughtful.

"And you learned it because of the chef?"

"He encouraged me. But eventually I wanted to understand more than restaurant vocabulary."
