He explained that the message requested immediate reporting of any passenger-conduct incident involving Maya. Another communication suggested that a documented dispute could justify additional review before she continued traveling.

For several seconds, Maya said nothing.

She looked toward Jessica.

The attendant was standing near the service cart, whispering angrily to Mike.

Then Maya asked Daniel a question.

"Did anyone identify an actual safety concern?"

"No."

"Did anyone claim I'd threatened a crew member or passenger?"

"No."

"Then why was a message sent to the cabin team?"

Daniel paused.

"That's what we're trying to establish."

Maya closed her eyes briefly.

She had spent months arguing that management was using customer-service procedures to conceal legitimate complaints.

Now someone in the executive chain appeared to have used those same procedures to create suspicion around her before she'd done anything wrong.

The implications were serious.

But she didn't want to jump to conclusions.

An instruction to document concerns wasn't proof that Adrian ordered a flight attendant to humiliate her.

The distinction mattered.

She looked toward the cabin again.

Then said quietly, "Preserve the entire communication chain, including the original messages and the records showing how they reached the crew."

Daniel agreed.

"And Maya?"

"Yes?"

"Are you safe?"

She glanced down at the sauce-covered gown.

Then looked toward Mike, who was still holding her boarding pass.

"I'm physically all right."

Daniel waited.

She continued.

"But I need the incident handled by someone who hasn't already decided what happened."

Maya ended the call and looked toward Mike.

"Please return my boarding pass."

The senior attendant frowned.

"Who were you talking to?"

"A colleague."

Jessica gave an irritated laugh.

"Somebody important, I suppose?"

Maya didn't answer.

Mike continued holding the ticket.

"Ma'am, we still need to resolve your conduct."

Maya looked directly at him.

"Then let's involve the captain and ground personnel, obtain witness statements, and preserve whatever records are available."

Mike's expression hardened.

"We don't need you directing the process."

"Then stop preventing me from providing my account."

For several seconds, they stared at each other.

Then the woman across the aisle stood slightly from her seat.

Her name was Sarah Kim.

She was thirty-four, Korean-American, and worked as a digital media producer specializing in documentary interviews. She was traveling to New York for a professional conference and had been recording part of the confrontation on her phone.

Sarah had initially started filming because the deliberate food spill shocked her.

Then she kept recording when Jessica began questioning Maya's right to occupy her seat.

Now she looked toward Mike.

"Sir, I saw the whole thing."

He sighed.

"Ma'am, please sit down."

Sarah remained calm.

"I have a recording."

Jessica turned sharply.

"You're not allowed to film employees without permission."
