“I didn’t even know.”
“Then why did his wife come to you?”
“Because my name is on approvals.”
The husband stared.
The affair had been betrayal.
This was danger.
“What was supposed to happen last night?”
His wife shook her head.
“I don’t know anymore.”
“Why red?”
Her mouth tightened.
“He said we were going to a private investor dinner.”
“What investor?”
“I don’t know.”
“He was going to introduce me to someone.”
“For what?”
“He said there was a new division.”
“He wanted me to lead it.”
The husband remembered the boss’s wife’s sentence.
Bigger than an affair.
“What did he want you to sign?”
His wife looked at him.
“How do you know?”
His stomach dropped.
“What?”
“He sent me paperwork yesterday.”
The husband stared.
“What paperwork?”
“Equity agreement.”
“Or something like that.”
“He said it would make me a partner.”
“Did you sign?”
“No.”
The husband exhaled.
His wife continued:
“I was supposed to tonight.”
He looked at her.
“Show me.”
“I don’t have it.”
“Where?”
“Email.”
He laughed without humor.
“Of course.”
His wife flinched.
The husband pulled out his phone.
“I’m calling an attorney.”
Her expression hardened.
“For what?”
“For you.”
“I don’t need you—”
“Yes.”
He interrupted sharply.
“You do.”
“And understand something.”
