"Caleb, please don't confront Marianne about this yet. I want the association's attorney to review it properly."

He agreed.

He was angry.

But he understood the value of a careful investigation.

If the president had misrepresented a board vote, the matter was bigger than one disputed parking notice.

Olivia advised Caleb to strengthen the practical security around his vehicle.

He already had cameras covering the driveway and front entrance, but one angle near the garage could be improved.

Caleb installed an additional camera directed at the driveway and the area where a tow truck would likely approach.

He also verified that the footage was saved in more than one place.

There was nothing elaborate or mysterious about the setup.

He wanted reliable recordings of activity occurring on his property.

The cameras didn't point into neighbors' windows.

They monitored the driveway, walkway, and garage entrance.

Caleb placed ordinary security notices near the property.

He wasn't trying to trap anyone.

He was trying to prevent a dispute from becoming a contest between unsupported accusations.

His father would have approved.

Raymond used to keep photographs of completed automotive work because customers occasionally forgot which repairs they'd authorized.

"Good records aren't about expecting everybody to lie," he'd tell Caleb. "They're about making the truth easier to establish."

Caleb remembered the advice while checking the camera system.

Then he placed the Lamborghini inside the garage and locked the doors.

For several days, nothing unusual happened.

He began to relax.

But the calm lasted less than a week.

At 6:24 on a Thursday morning, Caleb received a motion alert.

He was preparing coffee when his phone vibrated.

The security image showed a flatbed tow truck stopped near his driveway.

Two men stood beside it.

One wore a gray work shirt.

The other carried a clipboard.

Caleb immediately opened the recording.

The men walked toward the garage.

One examined the Lamborghini through the side window.

The other checked the driveway.

Then Marianne arrived.

She wore a light-colored jacket over her work clothes and appeared irritated.

The camera captured their conversation in fragments.

One man asked whether the vehicle owner knew about the removal.

Marianne shook her head.

She said the board had authorized the action and that the paperwork would be ready.

Caleb felt his pulse accelerate.

He stepped onto the porch.

"Can I help you?"

All three turned.

The man with the clipboard looked surprised.

Marianne immediately recovered.
