The first man looked uncomfortable.

He asked to verify the authorization directly with the registered owner before scheduling any transport.

Marianne became irritated.

She insisted the HOA president's signature should be sufficient.

But the men didn't proceed.

They returned to their truck and left.

The footage didn't show them agreeing to take the car.

It showed the opposite.

They had questioned the authority they were being asked to rely upon.

Yet the conversation exposed the plan Marianne had been developing.

She wanted to use an official-looking violation as leverage to move a valuable car without its owner's agreement.

And she was willing to exploit damage created by her own son to strengthen the appearance complaint.

Caleb looked from the phone to Marianne.

For several seconds, she stared at the screen.

Then she reached toward it.

"Where did you get that?"

Caleb moved it away.

"My security camera."

Brett stopped laughing.

His expression changed from amusement to uncertainty.

"What does that have to do with me?"

Caleb looked toward the marker in his hand.

"Everything."

Marianne suddenly stepped closer.

"You can't record private conversations!"

Caleb remained calm.

"You're standing on my driveway. The camera is recording activity on my property."

She pointed toward him.

"I demand you delete it!"

"No."

Brett glanced toward his mother.

For the first time, he appeared nervous.

Then Hailey spoke quietly.

"Mrs. Voss, we should tell the truth."

Marianne turned sharply.

"Stay out of this."

Hailey's face flushed.

She looked toward Caleb.

Then toward the black writing on the Lamborghini.

"I recorded what Brett did."

The young man's head snapped toward her.

"Hailey!"

She stepped backward.

He looked furious.

"You're supposed to be on my side."

Her eyes filled.

"I didn't know you were going to vandalize his car."

Brett stared.

For several seconds, he couldn't speak.

Then Marianne interrupted.

"Nobody is giving anyone any recordings!"

Caleb looked at her.

"You don't get to decide that."

Sirens sounded in the distance.

Marianne straightened.

For a moment, she appeared relieved.

Then Caleb calmly locked his phone and placed it in his pocket.

"You called them," he said.

She lifted her chin.

"Yes, I did."

He nodded toward the Lamborghini.

"Then I suggest you explain why your son wrote that on my door."

Two police officers arrived minutes later.

Officer Marisol Bennett was forty-four, a Black woman with fifteen years of patrol experience and a reputation for remaining calm during difficult disputes.
