Her partner, Officer Gavin Cole, was thirty-six and had previously handled several property-related calls in Stonebridge Heights.

They stepped from the cruiser and surveyed the scene.

A yellow Lamborghini sat on the driveway.

Black writing covered the driver's door.

A young man stood nearby holding a permanent marker.

A blonde woman in an expensive navy blazer was pointing angrily toward the homeowner.

And a second young woman appeared close to tears.

Marianne immediately approached the officers.

"Thank goodness you're here! This man threatened my son!"

Bennett looked toward Caleb.

Then toward the car.

"Ma'am, we'll speak with everyone. Please give us some space."

Marianne continued.

"He's been harassing us for months. I'm the HOA president, and he refuses to comply with association regulations!"

Cole looked toward Brett.

Then toward the marker.

"What happened to the vehicle?"

Marianne hesitated.

For a moment, she seemed caught off guard.

Then she answered.

"My son was expressing his frustration."

The officer stared.

"By writing on somebody else's car?"

Brett shifted.

Marianne immediately intervened.

"He didn't mean any harm."

Caleb looked toward the Lamborghini.

The thick black letters were impossible to miss.

Bennett turned toward him.

"Sir, can you tell me what happened?"

Caleb nodded.

He described the vandalism, Marianne's shove, and the false accusation that he'd threatened Brett.

Then he explained that security cameras recorded the relevant events.

Bennett asked whether he would preserve the footage for the investigation.

He agreed.

He also offered the earlier recording involving the transport company.

Cole frowned.

"What transport company?"

Caleb took a breath.

"That's what I think you need to see."

The officers separated the participants before reviewing the accounts.

Bennett spoke with Caleb near the garage.

Cole interviewed Marianne and Brett closer to the sidewalk.

Hailey was asked to provide her own description of what she witnessed.

She told the officers that Brett had deliberately written on the car.

She explained that Marianne watched him.

And she acknowledged that she'd been recording when the vandalism occurred.

Cole asked whether Caleb had threatened Brett.

Hailey hesitated.

Then shook her head.

"Not from what I saw."

Marianne's expression hardened.

She accused the young woman of betraying her family.

Cole asked her to stop interrupting.

Meanwhile, Bennett reviewed Caleb's security footage.

The recording clearly showed Brett approaching the Lamborghini with the marker.

It captured the writing.

The confrontation.

And Marianne shoving Caleb's arm.

The officer didn't need to guess about the basic sequence.
